Health Workers’ Preparedness towards Integrating Mental Healthcare into Primary Health Settings: Evidence from Nigeria

Background: The global drive to scale up mental health services and eliminate the treatment gap requires incorporating into primary care (PHC). Primary provides comprehensive, continuous, coordinated if need be referrals higher levels of care. However, for these meet basic objective PHC, it is necessary determine healthcare workers’ preparedness caring mentally ill. Therefore, this study aimed examine integrating settings in a rural community Nigeria. Methodology: A descriptive research design was used conduct among all 215 workers within Nkanu West Local Government Area (LGA). instrument data collection structured questionnaire constructed by author. pilot conducted on 10% sample population. Cronbach’s Alpha formula estimate reliability coefficient (0.85). collected were analysed with statistical frequencies percentages. Results: Data analyzed using Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Findings show that ill at centre quite low. It also found illness still shredded stigma as result poor awareness. Consequently, there persistent pervasive belief system Mental form retribution from gods one’s wrong deed area. Conclusion: concluded few respondents prepared which might awareness about negative stereotype given health. From analysis, can deduced exhibit some degree positive attitude towards ill, though, associated stigmatization due lack public understanding disorders. There strong support providers. Therefore education building capacity integration feasible PHC centres.
